THE URGENT NEED FOR GOVERNMENTS TO FIX OUR LANDSCAPE

SPEECH BY MAJOR GENERAL MICHAEL JEFFERY

Australia’s National Soils Advocate, former Governor-General Major General Michael Jeffery, will deliver an address to the Rotary Club of Sydney on Tuesday, September 26th.

Major General Jeffery will discuss the urgent need for Australia’s Federal, State and Territory governments to adopt a policy to restore and maintain the health of the Australian agricultural landscape.

He will discuss the critical requirement to work towards more productive, sustainable and healthy food systems, and explain that we are losing soil at the rate of around 1% per year to aridification, desertification and urbanisation, with one prediction that we will run out of all top soil globally in less than 200 years.

The media is invited to attend this event, and an advance copy of the speech notes is available.
